2016 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

2016 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

This is the time for making New Year's resolutions, so I have given it some thought and offer the following as a minimum of a large number of worthy resolutions I should adopt. They are adopted from these sources: "Prayers of an Aging Jesuit –http://www.xavier.edu/jesuitresource/online-resources/Prayers-for-Aging.cfm, the writings of Roger Rosenblatt, Rules for Aging New years.2 jpghttp://englishwithhemi.weebly.com/uploads/1/3/3/6/13368575/rules_for_aging.pdf and the writings of Dale Carnegie.http://www.csus.edu/indiv/l/luenemannu/pdf/communicationprinciples.pdf With full acknowledgment to these sources here are my minimum list of resolutions for 2016.

1.     I will daily appreciate the fact Lita tolerates me and still loves me in spite of my         many faults.

2.    I will rid myself of the illusion that I am  indispensable and rid myself of the pride for the     wisdom I think I've learned.

3.    I will remember not to worry about what others think because nobody is thinking about me. They are busy thinking about themselves.

4.    I will learn to live Psalm 118:24: "This is a day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it."

5.   I will make it a practice to find something to sincerely complement someone about  each day

6.     I will live 2 Chronicles 20 : "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow and the Lord will be         with you."

7.     I am learning to focus my attention only on those things that I can do something about. If I cannot affect it or direct it, I will         accept it.

8.    I am learning to be a good listener, become interested in what others say and to not interrupt.

9.    I will not envy anyone.  I will live Galatians 6:4:  "Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself,         without comparing himself to somebody else."

10.   I will become a friendlier person and the first to smile at others I meet.

And, this is only a limited list of the many changes I should make. I will be 81 years old in February which illustrates how much I haven't learned in all these years. Someone has written about people of my age that despite our many failings we have been allowed to live into old age because it took us longer to gain wisdom and we needed more time to make changes in our lives then other people.

This is my partial list of unfinished work. What's yours?
