MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL 2013

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL 2013

When we are very young time seems to move ever so slowly. When we are in our teens we are anxious to be grownups. When we are in our twenties it seems there are so many goals  we must accomplish before we are "old." Then middle age comes upon us and each birthday with a zero in it makes us worry about getting old. If you are blessed to live as long as I have, you notice that after sixty time begins to speed up each year until when you are in your seventies it moves at warp speed. You have no idea how time flew past without your being aware of it. As a  result you begin to treasure time in units until you reach a point that you charish each hour you are given in this life. At least that has been my experience and so I am grateful to Starexperience another Christmas and I wish each of you a very blessed holiday season.

There are a few things that I review with daily prayer and one of them is from Philippians 4:4 to inspire me to accept the fact that I need to learn to trust and to accept:

"Rejoice in the Lord always…The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything. but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace ofGod, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

I also keep King David's advice to his son Solomon on a sheet of paper in my Bible for daily reflection. In 1 Chronicles 23:13 David said to Solomon: "Be strong and courageous. Do not ge afraid or discouraged." And for my professional duties I reflect on Isaiah 1:17 "Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow." I also treasure advise about carrying around a sack full of past issues or guilt. Isaiah 43:18 "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past."

At my age Roger Rossenblatt's rules for aging have wisdom for me.  Here's a summary:

  1. It doesn't matter. Whatever  you think matters really doesn't matter
  2. Yes, you did. If you have the slightest question as to whether you are responsible for a wrongdoing, you are. Come to this conclusion early and act to correct it
  3. Nobody is thinking about you. I promise you, nobody is thinking about you. They are thinking about themselves.
  4. Ignore your enemy of kill him. Since you can't kill him, you need to learn to not care – not pretend you don't care, but really not care
  5. Don't envy anyone -ever. The secret is to recognize how blessed you are and to realize we never can know what crosses people care carrying
  6. To thine own self be true – unless you need to change. If  you really don't like yourself as you are, you may be right.
  7. A swine is always a swine. There may be a few people who change their bad character for the better, but don't count on it. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst

And, for some random thoughts of wisdom: William Van Hooser has said "Life's a dance, take it one step at a time and keep listening for the music." Someone has said "Every human being either  adds or subtracts from  the happiness of those with whom he or she comes in contact."

Somewhere I read and wrote down this advice:

"The highest courage is to dare to be yourself in the face of adversity. choosing right over wrong, ethics over  convenience and truth over popularity…These are the choices that measure your life. Travel the path of integrity without looking back, for there is never a wrong time to do the right thing."

So, there you have it, my random thoughts you might find helpful. The trick is to keep striving to accomplish a higher level of ethics and morality, especially in our relationship with others, in the face of failure. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
