32 YEARS TOGETHER

32 YEARS TOGETHER

On Friday February 27th 1981 I had the good sense to marry Lita Theresa Barnett. From that day to this we have been together virtually twenty four hours a day because we are not only partners in life, we are also partners in law. That means for the past 32 years we have worked and lived together. We really should be honoring a 64 year
Cropped xmasmarriage since we have never left each others side since our marriage.

Winston Churchill once wrote a note to his wife in which he said: "Thank you for being rash enough to marry me. Foolish enough to stay with me and for loving me in a way I thought I would never be loved." Once he was asked in an interview if he were to have a second life what would he want? He answered: "If I could not be who I am, I would most like to be Mrs. Churchill's second husband." Those are two thoughts I share completely about Lita.

I also identify totally with the late Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield when it was proposed to him that a statute would be erected in his honor. He refused unless it included his wife Maureen. He told the committee: "What we did, we did together. In short, I am what I am because of her."  That is exactly how I feel about Lita Barnett. The good I have done and the accomplishments I may have made are only because of her. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow expressed how I feel towards her in these lines:

"I have you fast in my fortress

And will not let you depart.

But, put you down into the dungeon,

In the round tower of my heart,

And there I will keep you forever,

Yes, forever and a day,

Till the walls shall crumble to ruin,

And moulder in dust away."

So, here's raising a glass to my heroine and my partner in every aspect of my life.
