VICE PRESIDENTAL DEBATE – SURPRISE AT HOW WELL BOTH DID

My take regarding the debate, from the viewpoint of a supporter of Obama and Biden, was that both candidates surprised me regarding how well they did as to demeanor and overall impression. Biden did an excellent job. He was poised and not verbose, nor argumentative nor overbearing as some had feared. He had great demeanor and presence.

Palin was no less impressive with her self confident, poise and articulate responses. I’m not talking about the content or accuracy nor even the responsiveness of her answers. I’m talking about the impression she created in giving them. She exceeded Republican expectations in my view.

Biden impresses me with his presidential appearance and his knowledge and grasp of issues. He has presidential qualifications. I was very pleased to see him put down so forcefully the undeserved and phoney claim that McCain is a "maverick." McCain has been Bush's lap dog ever since McCain began lusting for the office. I also thought Biden dealt well with the excuse the McCain uses to avoid his role in the present mess, namely that we shouldn’t talk about the past. It’s like the CEO of Enron applying for a job and insisting that his role in the past bankruptcy of the company is no longer relevant. McCain played a major role in creating the economic mess we are in and now doesn't want anyone to talk about it.

Palin remains, for me, the perky anchor on the late night news reading the Teleprompter with a big smile but not having a clue as to the significance of what she is reporting. My sexist view is that I suspect the great majority of women, both democratic and republican are pleased at her performance for the sake of women in politics generally. However, I don't know that this carries over into a vote for her by the undecided or not. I do know we desperately need Biden and Obama in charge. Four more years of a continuation of the Bush policy and we are in economic ruin.
