POETRY

Glen Allen’s poem The Woman I am speaks to me about how many people have a secret inner world hidden by a facade for the world:

The woman I am hides deep in me Beneath the woman I seem to be.She hides away from the stranger’s eye – she is not known to the passers-by.

She goes her way, the woman I seem, but the woman I am withdraws to dream. The woman I seem goes carelessly- when love goes by does not seem to see.

But the woman I am knows sudden fear..and hides more deeply when love draws near. For love might look closely perhaps…and see her beneath the woman I seem to be."

Then there is the unknown author of the poem Charity who wrote the following advice:

There is so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that ill behooves any of us to find fault with the rest of us

Ella Wheeler Wilcox wrote wonderful poetry. Her poem Growing Old describes what it means to get older:

The days grow shorter, the nights grow longer; The headstones thicken along the way And life grows sadder, but love grows stronger for those who walk with us day by day.

The tear comes quicker, the laugh comes slower; the courage is lessor to do and dare; And the tide of joy in the heart falls lower, and seldom covers the reefs of care.

But all true things in the world seem truer, and the better things of early seem best, and friends are dearer, as friends are fewer, and love is all as our sun dips west.

Then let us clasp hands as we walk together, and let us speak softly in low, sweet tone, For no man knows on the morrow whether we two pass on – or but one alone

Poetry communicates feelings in a very unique way. It often offers wonderful advice and meaning to our lives.
