HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

The first permanent settlement of the Colony of Virginia had been established May 14, 1607 when a group of English settlers arrived in December of 1619. Their arrival was observed as a "day of thanksgiving" to God. Captain John Woodleaf held the service of thanksgiving. In 1621 it was decided Thanksgiving to set aside a day of thanksgiving after the first harvest of that year. On October 3, 1789 president, George Washington proclaimed Thanksgiving as a national day of celebration. So, today we observe a day of thanksgiving.

The original settlers were particularly thankful for the help of native Americans without whose help they may not have survived. They also were thankful for the treaty they made with the native Americans giving them the right to establish a settlement at Jamestown. However, for native Americans Thanksgiving can have a different meaning then the rest of the country .To them, thanksgiving has a totally different meaning. They see it as marking the time of a treaty where they made the mistake of giving up their land and rights. This led to the invasion of more people who brought with  them with disease, death and loss of  land as well as rights.

For today, however, I am thankful for all of the blessings that my family and I have received. We have so much to be thankful for and so little to complain about. A happy Thanksgiving to all from Scottsdale.

  1. #5 does not look like Herb Freise at all, he is my first cousin, once removed, and I’ve seen him hundreds of times. In addition, he is still alive, and I thought I wrote you earlier on this. My dad and he were very close cousins, and I have kept in contact with Herb for years, since we both live in the seattle area.
