The jury may have convicted Scooter Libby, but they convicted the wrong man. Hiding behind his skirts were three of the real culprits. The undisputed evidence demonstrates that Dick Cheney was the real perpetrator, with the assistance of Karl Rove and the cooperation of George Bush as his accomplices. In spite of their conspiracy of action you knew they were never be held accountable given their political protection. In fact, the prosecutor never even called the key witness in the case, Dick Cheney. Not only that, despite the admissions and evidence implicating Karl Rove he was never charged either. Of course, there was no chance George Bush would be charged or even called as a witness either. Their combined political clout and connections made that an impossibility. But, someone had to take the fall, so, like the military when something goes bad, it’s never the general. That leaves good, old, loyal Scooter as the administration scape goat. He was loyal to the end and didn’t even take the stand to testify which tells you a lot about the real facts in this unsavory situation.

Enough evidence was gathered to clearly demonstrate the lengths Dick Cheney went to in order to punish Joseph Wilson, former ambassador. When Wilson went public with his disclosure that the Cheney and the Administration had used discredited information to justify the invasion of Iraq, Cheney immediately went into action to pay him back and discredit him any way he could. Cheney’s obsession with revenge fits his lack of character. (See previous posts 2/22/07 & 1/31/07) The evidence also revealed George Bush’s complicity in quietly declassifying top secret intelligence in order for Cheney to use it, through Libby, to attack Wilson. Libby took the information at Cheney direction, and leaked the identity of Wilson’s wife as a CIA operative to the reporters, as a punishment. The evidence also establishes Cheney was the mastermind who hand picked the reporters he wanted Libby to leak the information to as well. It was Rove who assisted Cheney in developing "talking points" and to draft what they wanted CIA Director Tenet to say publically. There was shadowy Karl Rove operating just behind the scenes in this vendetta. While Libby was convicted for lying to investigators and the Grand Jury it was because he was protecting the real culprits as well as the true facts.

Let’s also keep in mind the White House’s now discredited insistence that neither Rove, Cheney nor Libby were involved in any leak. To this day, they have not corrected their denials. Not only that, but two former Bush administration officials have been convicted for actions relating to Republican Lobbyist Jack Abramoff who had ties directly with Mr. Bush. Isn’t it amazing that the President of the United States, Bill Clinton was impeached for his evasions regarding Monica Lewinski, but this gang of culprits aren’t made accountable?
