U.S. Attorney John McKay – Another Bush Political Victim

Count U.S. Attorney John McKay of Seattle among the victims of the Bush Germany_1 administration purge of U.S. attorneys around the country. (See Bush Politics and U.S. Attorney Carol Lam posted 1/26/07) In typical conspiratorial fashion the Bush administration has once again fired a U.S. Attorney without cause and without explanation. In a scene like Germany’s 1934 massacre "night of the long knives" the Bush group has been firing U.S. attorneys around the country, many of whom were involved in investigations and prosecutions of people connected with the Bush Administration.

In the case of John McKay, he too, was suddenly and without explanation fired. McKay told the Associated Press this week "I was ordered to resign as U.S. attorney on Dec. 7 by the Justice Department. I was given no explanation. I certainly was told of no performance issues."

Seven U.S. Attorneys in the West since March have been fired along with three others for reasons the Administration refuses to divulge. Ignoring the obvious political implications of their actions, the Bush administration insists there was no political motivation for firing the U.S. Attorneys. In spite of their lame duck status or perhaps because of it, this administration continues to act with total arrogance as a dictatorship.
